A Killing at the Creek Nancy Allen read online review & book description:

Prosecutor Elsie Arnold loves her small-town home in the Ozark hills, but she’s been waiting for a murder to come along and make her career. So when a body is found under a bridge, throat cut, Elsie jumps at the chance to work on the case, even if it’s alongside the brash new chief assistant, Chuck Harris—and her latest flame, Detective Bob Ashlock.

But when the investigation reveals that the deceased woman was driving a school bus, and the police locate the vehicle, its interior covered in blood, the occupant and only suspect is a fifteen-year-old boy. Elsie’s in for more than she bargained for.

Win or lose, this case will haunt her. No one has successfully prosecuted a juvenile for first-degree murder in McCown County. If she loses, it’s her career on the line and a chilling homicide unresolved; if she wins, a boy’s liberty will be taken from him before he reaches his sixteenth birthday.

This book is categorized under, "Mystery & Thrillers." I certainly didn't see anything thrilling about this book and that wasn't even all that suspenseful. The only mystery was, was the defendant guilty or innocent. A rather boring read. DH
  • Fun read

Okay, so it doesn't read like a Grisham novel, but it was entertaining. More like a "chic" read.
  • Terrible

Writing was choppy. Main character was immature. Pretty disappointing. Final moments were totally contrived.

Why must the F-bomb be used so much? I had to stop reading this half way through because of all the language. Sorry I purchased it.

This new book by Nancy Allen is awesome. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. It is the best courtroom thriller I've read in ages. Elsie is a stunning protagonist. She is a fighter in the courtroom and the kind of woman you could join for a beer in the taproom. A great read.

Couldn't put this down! Another fast paced and masterful novel by Nancy Allen! Can't wait for the next book to catch up with Elsie's amazingly challenged life and work to pursue justice! Thanks Ms Allen for another great ride!
