London, 1819
Marked for death, Lady Augustine Christopherson finds herself scouring the slums of London in a desperate search to find the men who killed her father, and are determined to dispose of her. To protect her family, to protect herself, she is determined to find the men before they find her.

The last thing she wanted was an entanglement with a duke that threatens her very survival…

Hardened long ago, the last thing the Duke of Dunway wanted was an entanglement with a chit of the ton. But in the flash of a pistol, his fate is altered as he finds himself honor-bound to protect Lady Augustine from, of all things, herself.

The Hold Your Breath series begins.
A thousand reasons to hold your breath, and one to let it go.
Historical romance with strong women, undeniable men, and hold your breath adventure.

Loved this classic English romance. Had drama, conflict, love scenes. Posts of twists and turns. Really enjoyed the book.

Very exciting story. I liked the suspense and intrigue. The characters were flawed but so likable. In the end, you are rooting for the HEA.
  • Amazing feminine lead

From the get go you get how tough Aggie is but it gets even more astonishing how much she has gone through to keep herself and family safe, she could have done it on her own but it was great how fast the Duke, Devin decides he is going to help her. Great twists and turns and even their traumatic pasts reels you into their love story. I had mostly been reading contemporary romance novels but this book reminded me how much I enjoyed reading historical romances and looking forward to more from K.J. Jackson and getting snippets about how Aggie and Devin are doing in the other book in this series.
  • Good story line

There were good things to applaud in this book but I’m not into all the sex scenes and twisted mind games that the author had a need to include. The person who was behind all the terror didn’t seem true to it whom and where he associated. There was too much darkness and tragedy. Each character comes from a place of a harsh, debilitating history. The characters were lively, the plot moved along quickly, and there are some daring, last minute escapes and rescues which gave me the chance to give the book three stars.

I enjoyed this book very much. The feisty young Aggie somehow managed to upend the duke's calm existence. She met him on one of her nightly escapades. Disguised as a hackney driver, she was out on the streets of London at night looking for her father's murderers. His need to protect her, even though she was a stranger to him, and her stubborn independence caused them to clash. In the end, however, she realized the duke was the best thing that could happen to her. Read the book to find out how their lives take a course neither had anticipated.
