My Mother's Secret J.L. Witterick read online review & book description:

Inspired by a true story, My Mother’s Secret is a captivating and ultimately uplifting tale intertwining the lives of two Jewish families in hiding from the Nazis, a fleeing German soldier, and the mother and daughter who save them all.

Franciszka and her daughter, Helena, are simple, ordinary people...until 1939, when the Nazis invade their homeland. Providing shelter to Jews in Nazi-occupied Poland is a death sentence, but Franciszka and Helena do exactly that. In their tiny home in Sokal, they hide a Jewish family in a loft above their pigsty, a Jewish doctor with his wife and son in a makeshift cellar under the kitchen, and a defecting German soldier in the attic—each party completely unknown to the others. For everyone to survive, Franciszka will have to outsmart her neighbors and the German commander.

Told simply and succinctly from four different perspectives—all under one roof—My Mother’s Secret is a testament to the kindness, courage, and generosity of ordinary people who chose to be extraordinary.

Not as heavy & dark as I felt it might be with it being based on a true holocaust story. It’s truly a story of how 1 kind heart can do a lot in a dark world!!

This novel, based on fact, is heart-wrenching in its truth! It’s the story of 4 separate families coming together to survive horrible circumstances. This would be the book I recommend for younger generations to learn about true love and kindness amidst extreme loss.

I read this book really fast. They story was very good. It was both heartwarming and devastating. I love books that show hope and love, amid hate and destruction. The world would be a better place if it had more Francezskas in it.

This was a wonderful book! I read it in one sitting. If we could all be like Helena’s mom and be willing to always help others for no reason than it’s the right thing to do, what a wonderful world we would live in! Thank goodness there are truly good people out there that are like Helena’s mom. This story was very inspirational. Thank you for writing it and sharing it with me.

I read in one day and really liked the intertwining stories of the courageous characters in the book. The horrors that they experienced during the war were terrible, and yet they sustained themselves with love and hope.
