Mrs. Kennedy and Me Clint Hill read online review & book description:

The #1 New York Times bestselling memoir by Clint Hill that Kirkus Reviews called “clear and honest prose free from salaciousness and gossip,” Jackie Kennedy’s personal Secret Service agent details his very close relationship with the First Lady during the four years leading up to and following President John F. Kennedy’s tragic assassination.

In those four years, Hill was by Mrs. Kennedy’s side for some of the happiest moments as well as the darkest. He was there for the birth of John, Jr. on November 25, 1960, as well as for the birth and sudden death of Patrick Bouvier Kennedy on August 8, 1963. Three and a half months later, the unthinkable happened.

Forty-seven years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the one vivid image that never leaves Clint Hill’s mind is that of President Kennedy’s head lying on Mrs. Kennedy’s lap in the back seat of the limousine, his eyes fixed, blood splattered all over the back of the car, Mrs. Kennedy, and Hill as well. Sprawled on the trunk of the car as it sped away from Dealey Plaza, Hill clung to the sides of the car, his feet wedged in so his body was as high as possible.

Clint Hill jumped on the car too late to save the president, but all he knew after that first shot was that if more shots were coming, the bullets had to hit him instead of the First Lady.

Mrs. Kennedy’s strength, class, and dignity over those tragic four days in November 1963 held the country together.

This is the story, told for the first time, of the man who perhaps held her together.

I loved how detailed everything was. Gave me a different insight on the president and the first lady, and the relationship between Jackie & Clint.

  • Captivating book

My heart was in this book the entire time I was reading it. This is not a gossip book but a look at the agent and Jackie K. He was with her in good and bad times and she had nothing but respect for him. I couldn't put it down. The only negative I could give it was not saying enough about their last year together after the death of the President.
  • Heartbreaking time in our history

My friends thought my dad looked like JFK. HE DID! We had a book in the house about president Kennedy. I used to read it...okay, look at the pictures. When I COULD. Read, I read about his funeral. I was 8 or 9? I grieved then. JFK JR. Was just a bit older than I. Thank you Mr. Hill for, as you said, archiving your first person account. We can only wonder what his second term might have brought us. RIP Mr & MRS Kennedy.

Mrs. Kennedy and Me is an excellent book, very easy to read, and a book that is hard to put down. The book tells a story first hand from the author's personal memories of his years as Secret Service agent to Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. He tells his story in great detail, giving the reader the feeling they are experiencing everything with him. A tender book written with love about the most famous woman of the 20th century.

What a beautiful story of a perfect lady and her Knight. The Kennedy's were Camelot, but Clint Hill was her knight. What a special story of the two of them and their times together. Reliving the the Dallas ordeal was so real. I was 8 yrs old when that happened and I remember how very sad ip felt for the kids. I remember his rocking chair on the news leaving the White House was also very sad. We always saw the whole picture with Oswald doing the shooting but, Clint gave us the story from the car and all of them not knowing if they were safe or not. It was a riveting book that held my interest through the whole time.

  • A journey back when I was a 10 year old girl

This is a wonderful book. I was 10 years old attending a catholic school when the news came over the loud speaking that we were being summoned into the church to pray for the president who had been shot. I don’t remember many details of my life as a small child, but I remember details of that day. And, of the entire weekend watching tv in shock. Innocence was gone. Life was never the same. Growing up in an Irish Catholic family, from the east coast, we, of course, felt a special connection to the Kennedy’s. I didn’t understand policitcs (don’t today either) but John Kennedy was a hero to this little girl. He once came to our town (Lexington, Ky) and we drove out to the airport and stood on the main road and watched his limo make the turn into the airport. I saw his face in the back of the limo waving at the crowds. This wonderful book broght back many memories of those times, and it was wonderful that the book focused on the good years. Thanks for writing it.
