Messenger Lois Lowry read online review & book description:

Strange changes are taking place in Village. Once a utopian community that prided itself on its welcome to new strangers, Village will soon be closed to all outsiders. As one of the few people able to travel through the dangerous Forest, Matty must deliver the message of Village’s closing and try to convince Seer’s daughter to return with him before it’s too late. But Forest has become hostile to Matty as well, and he must risk everything to fight his way through it, armed only with an emerging power he cannot yet explain or understand.

In school I couldn't put this book down, and, as I was nearing the end, I got yelled at for reading while the teacher was talking. This is a great book with a powerful ending and message, and I would recommend the Giver Quartet to many.
  • Great sequel

As powerful as the last book. Lois Lowry continues to amaze. I read The Giver in 2005 and I still remember it. Reading the quartet is truly a blessing!

Knowing what a wonderful book the giver was I was excited to read the other novels. Unfortunately they are not great. I don't remember much of the giver since I read it in grade school I just remember the feeling I had, and it was mind blowing. Gathering blue and Messenger start out well enough but then develop into nothing. I had so many questions about both books that were never answered. Each book starts out with a new main character and their own problems, developing a power out of no where; really for no great reason. Will not be reading the last one.
