Greater Than Yourself Steve Farber read online review & book description:

An inspiring parable on the greatest leadership lesson of all—that the best leaders go beyond the tenets of the Golden Rule and help others to be better than they are themselves

Too many people assume that the timeless principles of genuine leadership—of helping others achieve their full potential—don’t apply Monday through Friday during work hours or in any circumstance where a paycheck is involved.

In Greater Than Yourself, Steve Farber proves them wrong. With this powerful and eye-opening story, Farber shows that the goal of true leadership is to help others—teammates, employees, and colleagues—become more capable, confident, and accomplished than their leaders. Through the actions of a forward-thinking and extraordinarily successful CEO, Farber reveals the three keys to achieving what he calls GTY: Expand Yourself, Give Yourself, and Replicate Yourself.

Filled with thought-provoking ideas and actionable principles, Greater Than Yourself offers a powerful message for today’s business leaders.

New to a job, and company, I am required now to go to weekly meetings where a "Regional management team" meet to discuss our groups' successes and shortcomings. The Regional Operating Officer was giving out copies of this book to all of the local Executive Directors, and told them they had to have it read in 5 weeks, but this was only 1/3 of the regional team. This was instantly deflating, and made me feel very inadequate. As if I wasn't good enough to benefit from any new information that could be very educational. So I went ahead and bought my own copy. I started reading this book right away. Having had no experiences previously with "self help" books, I thought I would have my usual habit occur as it always has with any other type of read. Spend 5 minutes reading, then wake up the next morning not knowing how I had fallen asleep with my book in my lap. This book was amazing!!! I not only dove into this book immediately enthusiastic, but tore through it in only 4 days! I already have ideas about my first GTY project, and if you haven't guessed it by now, it is going to be my Regional Operating Officer, to show him how significant this information can be to everyone on his direct team. I even have plans to share it with my step-daughter to help her become a stronger person in the face of her self-doubts. I feel I can learn as much, if not more from her than most other people I know. I would highly recommend this book to everyone, even if they are highly successful personally and professionally. An easy read that keeps you engaged and will have you thinking long after you've turned the last page.
