  • Great story, but typos kill it

    By zenfrodo
I know Lackey has better editors than this. I've read this tale in paperback, and the formatting was fine. But here, the ebook version...the typos and formatting turn this into an unreadable mess. Spacing problems, italics used when they shouldn't be, sentences changing from italic to regular in the middle of a word, spelling errors, line and paragraph breaks where they shouldn't be. Lackey uses italics to set off her characters' thoughts and mind-speech; whoever was converting this to ebook obviously didn't bother to proofread nor care about the errors. This isn't the first Lackey book to have these issues in ebook format, either.
  • Great book- weird formatting

Loved this book- it was a favorite in my teens (though, parents, I would definitely call this an adult book...) and I still enjoy it enough to buy it now. One problem I did have was some very annoying formatting errors. There were a lot of italics used incorrectly, sometimes switching on and off within a single word. There was some other ones (ü, for example, didn't show up) as well.

Always worth the read; but OMG the typos. Come on please proofread the material before releasing it.
  • Story good, minor issue with the e-book

I've owned the paper version of this book for years, and read it probably a dozen times. It's a good stand-alone book, but it's even better if you're familiar with the other related Mercedes Lackey. The four-star rating (instead of 5) has more to do with the publishing quality of the e-Book than the story itself. Occasionally, perhaps 10-15 times in the whole book, there are editorial issues. They're all pretty minor- things where one letter seems to have been switched for another, or two letters somehow got merged into one. The errors probably developed during the process of converting the original book into an e-book format. But, it's irksome to spend as much for the e-Book as I did for the paperback and have these sorts of errors crop up. Come on, publishers, give the thing a read-through before you re-publish it!
