Reckless Refuge Catherine Cowles read online review & book description:

There were shadows I was running from.
Ones that haunted and taunted.
Ones that made it so I had no choice but to disappear.

I’d spent years hiding from the world.
My little island haven, the only assurance of safety.

It all changed the moment he showed up at my door.
The hint of pain in his eyes told me that something haunted him, too.
And I couldn’t help but be drawn closer.

But finding the person I needed most came with risks I never expected.
And when our ghosts find us again, neither of us may make it out this time.

  • A must read!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What a beautiful book. This is one of Catherine’s best book. This story is a beautiful romance but, also a wonderful suspense triller. Love Shay and Brody. They were perfect for each other. Shay..omg love her so much. She was so strong and at the same time so vulnerable. I wanted to protect her at all cost. Love Brody. He was so protective of Shay and pushed her to go out of her confort zone. This book is my favorite of this series. I highly recommend all Catherine’s book, but this series is a must read.
  • Not as good as the first books

    By Saucey Cher
I have loved the series but I don’t find this book as good as the others. The storyline of trusting and romance moved too fast. There seemed to be more graphic scenes in this one as well. There wasn’t enough build up and back story.
  • Catherine Cowles very BEST!

OMG! Can I marry Brody next? Catherine Cowles has done it again. Reckless Refuge is breathtaking in every single word. This is the next installment in her Wrecked series and brings to life the love story of Shay and Brody. Shay has one of the most unique and heartbreaking back stories I've ever read. All I can tell you is how the love of Brody gives her the courage to overcome her past is just beautiful to read. There is a great suspenseful thread running through the story to keep you on the edge of your seat and a happily ever after to make it all worthwhile. All in all, I just loved how I felt while reading and was reminded yet again just why I love Catherine Cowles writing so much.
  • Loved!

Talk about an emotional roller coaster! This book was such a well written book on family, love, and the complex emotions when it comes to PTSD. I adored how strong both of these characters were, they were so strong they were able to be vulnerable. I felt like I was there, in the book setting, with all of the characters and I just couldn't get enough of it! You won't want to miss this book!
  • So freaking amazing!

What a whirlwind!! Shay and Brody's story is absolutely exhilarating! The fourth installment to the Wrecked Series is filled with heat, suspense, and is nothing short of enticing. I couldn't put it down! Everything about this book had me Not only does the romance sizzle between the two mysterious characters but their backstories pack just as much punch! Without giving too much away, the red herrings that liter the chapters kept me guessing till the very end. Shay - the illusive island caretaker hidden beneath scars and a haunted past... Brody - the angst riddled artist with an eye for the morbid reality... Bring those together and what do you get? A truly wrecked and heart-stopping romance. Ugh, I can't express enough how much I loved this story... So beautifully written, you're not going to want to pass this up!
  • Completely obsessed with Catherine’s books!

Completely obsessed with Catherine’s books! After meeting Shay in the previous book and noticing how mysterious she was, I was so excited that she was getting her own book with her own HEA! Shay had a traumatic childhood thanks to her brother, causing her to spend over a decade running from him and her past. Getting a job on a remote island was the perfect solution for her, until the island was sold and the fate of her home and employment are questioned. Brody has purchased the island to get away from NYC and the traumatic memories that surround it involving his career. Looking to be secluded and hopefully salvage what’s left of his career, he buys the island and is immediately drawn to and curious about Shay. As the two get to know each other, Shay finally is able to open up to someone (aka Brody) and in turn he helps her to start really developing the budding friendships she already had with the Anchor crew. The ending of this book is absolutely explosive, and while I saw parts of it coming, there were other parts that had me truly surprised and kept me guessing until the very end. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one in this series! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
  • Gah!!!

Gah!! I was lucky enough to have won a super early copy of this story and just WOW!! I think my heart is still beating as fast as it was reading the last 20-30 pages! Shay and Brody, man I adore them! Two broken souls who found each other just when they needed it! And two beautiful broken souls who become friends with the rest of my favorite island! And we can’t forget the flair Ms. Cowles loves to put in her stories. I COULD NOT put this story down!!!
  • Amazing emotional story!

What an emotional roller coaster. Brody and Shay have an amazing story. Shay’s past horror with her brother and all of the evil he inflicted in her life was heartbreaking. Unimaginable. I hated that she was hiding out, not really living her life. Yet, I loved her resilience and fight. Brody was going through a rough time in his life, and I liked that he seemed to be searching for something more real. There was hesitancy on both of their parts, as they got to know each other. The attraction was there and the chemistry was fantastic, but there was fear as well. I really enjoyed their story. There was so much suspense and anticipation surrounding the murders and Shay’s brother, wondering if there was a connection or not. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Love this series!
  • Favorite of this series!

4.5 Stars. This is probably up there as a favorite of this series. Loved the connection and chemistry between Brody and Shay. Add in a thriller/suspense element and you’re captivated until the end. Absolutely worth the read.
  • Loved Shey and Brody

I couldn’t put this book down. It started with a bang that had my jaw dropping and dying to know how everything fit together. This book was full full of twists and I had a hard time trying to fit all the puzzle pieces together. Brody and Shay were both so good for each other and helped each other start living again. I loved reading about them starting to flourish and lean on each other. The evolution of their relationship from being strangers to being in love is such a great journey. They had to get through multiple obstacles but did it together and just showed how strong they both were. I loved getting more of everyone else we’ve already met on Anchor Island and has me wanting to never leave this world. Catherine Cowles weaves a story of two people who are hiding from their pasts and
