Vostok Steve Alten read online review & book description:

East Antarctica: The coldest, most desolate location on Earth. Two-and-a-half miles below the ice cap is Vostok, a six thousand square mile liquid lake, over a thousand feet deep, left untouched for more than fifteen million years. Now, marine biologist Zachary Wallace and two other scientists aboard a submersible tethered to a laser will journey 13,000 feet beneath the ice into this unexplored realm to discover Mesozoic life forms long believed extinct--and an object of immense power responsible for the evolution of modern man.

In this sequel to The Loch and prequel to MEG: Nightstalkers, New York Times bestselling author Steve Alten offers readers a crossover novel that combines characters from two of his most popular series.

Its starts off as a great 'creature feature' novel like The Loch or the Meg series but takes a series wierd turns including aliens, government conspiracies, extra dimentional spiritualism, and time travel. Is this were two seperate novels with different characters then it would all have been good. I'm gonna read THE LOCH to the taste of VOSTOK out of my mouth.
  • It had promise

I could not put this book down...until mid-book. That is when things went down hill. It started off with so much promise, with prehistoric animals and danger and excitement, only to turn to some weird crappy sort of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I wish it hadn't gone that route. It seemed like one author did the first half and another came in and wrote the rest
  • Gripping Thriller

This was a book I couldn't stop reading. While some areas were confusing to follow, the story of Zachary & his struggle through Vostok was both exciting & given to bouts of prehistory. While Steve Alten may have taken liberties with some of the species of the lake, it is quite obvious he took the time to research these creatures' pasts. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
