The Old Man and the Sea Ernest Hemingway read online review & book description:

Set in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Havana, Hemingway's magnificent fable is the story of an old man, a young boy and a giant fish. It was The Old Man and the Sea that won for Hemingway the Nobel Prize for Literature. Here, in a perfectly crafted story, is a unique and timeless vision of the beauty and grief of man's challenge to the elements in which he lives. Not a single word is superflous in this widely admired masterpiece, which once and for all established his place as one of the giants of modern literature.

The book I found to be mediocre. Very repetitious. Bored halfway through and skimmed to the end. If this was classic genius, I doubt that I will read anymore Hemingway.

I bought this because it was one of the cheaper prints and regretted not spending the extra few dollars. The formatting is terrible. I guess you get what you pay for.

It was a particularly good book in the use of imagery and text use. A good read. For a fisherman...
  • I Fish

As a person who fishes for sport not to kill or eat I can relate to the old mans struggle. I have fought and released big fish. While fighting each of them I think to myself this fish is fighting for it life. I so want to tell the fish I mean you no harm but wish to look in your eye and say thank you. We have both won this day. Hemingway captures his life in Cuba and fishing from the Pillar a fine vessel. His ability to write and explain the struggles of man and his ability to endure. This is in my opinion a great book and this is not the first time I have read it. I know I will read it again Thank you Mr. Hemingway.

This book was full of action and still had the love of fishing. This book was not boring like some others I read and I could not put it down. Good Job Hemingway.
